The ‘component-only’ switch uses a single CAT 5* cable to transmit component, analogue and digital audio signals, and is ideal when the remit requires only High Definition (HD) video and TV signals to be distributed from a source such as a Blu Ray player. As Jon Lane, Smart-e’s managing director says “With budgets getting tighter, we decided to offer a dedicated ‘component only’ configurable solution to give a cost-effective choice of switches for transmitting video and TV signals. By reducing the number of features on this range, the prices are very competitive (with up to 40% savings on comparable systems from abroad), whilst still delivering superior HD picture quality and sound up to 300 metres from the source device.”

The compact unit is housed in the company’s 1U 19” rack mounting SNX-8x8 chassis and starts at 2 inputs and 2 outputs. Units are configurable by individual inputs and outputs to match requirements, and can be fitted post-install to increase capacity to a total of 8 component, composite or Y/C sources to 8 CAT 5* displays. The switches transmit via a single CAT 5* cable which is easier and cheaper to install and overcomes cable space limitations, whilst the inline power prevents power damage associated with other dual CAT 5* cable systems. Manufactured in the UK, the switches feature 1080p component, RS232, and wide band infra-red controls allowing control of any IR device, and are available direct from Smart-e, together with a 3 year warranty and a high level technical support from the Smart-e team.
