New ‘audio only’ addition from Smart-e increase functionality and saves space for marine AV applications The new ‘audio-only’ option has been designed by Smart-e for its marine AV solution range smartwave, and to save space, fits into the original smartwave matrix, providing extra functionality within the same unit.
AV switching and distribution solutions company Smart-e launched smartwave last year, specially for yachts, commercial shipping and other ‘on-board’ applications, and is available with a range of inputs and outputs, allowing up to 48 sources to be selected to up to 32 displays. The smartwave range features all the advantages of Smart-e matrices but are built to withstand prolonged exposure in a salt laden atmosphere and damp environments, and to withstand the shock and vibration from boat engines and sea motion. The new ‘audio only’ option allows for an extra 16 ‘audio-only’ inputs and outputs to be incorporated into the switch, which can be configured to individual requirements. The addition fits neatly into the same compact unit as the original matrix thereby saving on space, whilst adding extra functionality. The overall cost of the matrix, and the need for ‘audio only’ receivers, means costs can be reduced substantially. For example, 48 inputs can be set to transmit both audio and visual content to 32 ‘on-board’ displays whilst a further 16 zones/cabins can receive audio-only signals. This is particularly beneficial in marine vessels where space is limited and the need to display information may not be necessary in every area. This combination has already been well received by the oil exploration sector and Smart-e can see the use expanding to commercial shipping and super yachts. SmartWave has been designed primarily to switch and distribute high definition component signals up to 1080p resolutions using the Smart-e SLX-RX220 Cat 5 receiver however, the system is compatible with all other known analogue video formats including RGBHV, Y/C and CVBS when used with standard SmartLynx Cat 5 receivers. Both digital (S/P DIF) and analogue stereo audio can also be selected and transmitted on the same single CAT 5* cable whilst allowing IR reverse control. It can be used for entertainment, and messaging, and can even be used to enhance the viewing of navigation information.
